Nutanix Files 5.0

Yesterday, 2024-05-20, Nutanix released a major version of Nutanix Files meaning the latest and greatest version is now 5.0. Files is a software-defined, scale-out file storage solution which provides the services to consumers via Server Message Block (SMB) and Network File System (NFS) protocols.

Version 5.0 comes with the following new features & existing feature enhancements:

• VDI Home Directory Sync
• Up to 1 PB Shared Storage Capacity
• SSD-LowEndurance Tier for Nutanix Files
• Switching Smart DR Policy Replication Direction
• Identity and Access Management (IAM) UI with Files
• You can now scale your Files environment up to 32 File Server Virtual Machines (FSVM)
• File Server floating IP Assignment in VPC management via File Manager UI.
• Metro Availability for Files UI – Applies to ESXi based Files environments.
• Nutanix Central Integration with Files
• Performance Profile
• HPE Hybrid Dense Node Support – HPE DX4200 Gen11 platform with 525 TB capacity

Minimum required software versions to use with Files 5.0 are:

• Files Manager 5.0
• AOS 6.5.x
• Prism Central 2023.3
• FSM 4.4.0.2
