Whenever possible i configure a vCloud Automation Center 6.0.1 (vCAC) Reservation to use a vSphere Datastore Cluster. You configure the vCAC Reservations in the vCAC web interface under Home -> Infrastructure -> Reservations -> Reservations:
However, the other day i couldn’t select, mark the check box and perform my configuration, the vSphere Datastore Cluster DSC-01 when trying to configure a Tenant Reservation.
There has been no problem configuring the vSphere Datastore Cluster option for my customers other Reservations so i started to compare the the vSphere Datastores Clusters without any problem with the DCS-01 vSphere Datastore Cluster.
The difference i found was that the vSphere Datastore Cluster configuration Storage DRS feature was not enabled compared to enabled using the “No Automation – (Manual Mode)” and/or “Fully Automated” mode for all other vSphere Datastore Clusters.
The configuration, “No Automation – (Manual Mode)”, depends on type of workloads running and what storage system is in use.
I performed the following steps to make it possible to select the vSphere Datastore Cluster for a vCAC Reservation.
- I changed the vSphere Datastore Configuration for the DCS-01 vSphere Datastore Cluster to Storage DRS Turned On using the “No Automation (Manual Mode)” configuration option.
- Performed an Inventory Data Collection for the vCAC Compute Resource found in the vCAC web interface under Home -> Infrastructure -> Compute Resources -> Compute Resources:
When finished i could select and configure the vSphere Datastore Cluster DSC-01 as a Storage Path for my vCAC Reservation:
