Yesterday, 2018-03-08, VMware released a new version of VMware vCloud (vCD) meaning the latest and greatest version is now 9.1.
Below are some of the new features and functionality included in the new release:
- Dedicated HTML 5 Provider Portal – No more Flex unless you want to use it since it is still available.
- Improved Tenant Portal
- New IaaS dashboard with vAPP and Catalog management capabilities.
- No browser extension needed for OVA/OFV upload and download.
- Service integration with vRealize Orchestrator (vRO) so you can use vRO with vCD pretty much same way as you can with vRealize Automation. Haven’t looked that much into this but it looks promising with a vCD Service Library.
- Automation capabilities via:
- FIPS Mode support on the Edge gateways when using NSX version 6.3.2 or higher. Will provide FIPS 140-2 compliant networking functions.
- Multi-site management view which makes it possible to manage multiple vCD sites via a single view
- Standalone VMCR
- SR-IOV is fully supported
As mentioned when vCD 9.0 was released the support for old vCloud API versions (1.5, 5.1) is now removed. Make sure to use the 5.5 version from now on.
The following operation systems can be used to run vCloud Director 9.1:
- CentOS 6
- CentOS 7
- Oracle Linux 6
- Oracle Linux 7
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
