VMware vCenter Server 6.0 U3 & ESXi 6.0 U3 released

A few days ago, 2017/02/24, VMware released vCenter Server 6.0 Update 3 and ESXi 6.0 Update 3. Both vCenter Server 6.0 U3 and ESXi 6.0 U3 now includes upport for TLS v 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2. For ESXi it is enabled by default and can be configurable with 6.0 U3. For vCenter Server 6.0 U3 the following information regarding TSL is very useful:

  • See VMware KB 2148819 and 2145796 for TSL configuration information and KB 2148819 for known TSL issues.
  • VMware Syslog Collector on vCenter Server Appliance supports TLSv1.0 only.
  • TLS configuration script can be downloaded here

Additional enhancements/updates inlcudes:

  • vCenter Server
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 3 as external database
    • Migration from vCenter Server Windows 5.5.x to vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 Update 3 is supported
    • Platform Services Controller (PSC) requires 4 GB of memory by default, for fresh install and while upgrading from 5.5.x to 6.0 Update 3.
  • ESXi
    • Ships with and updated Host Client, version 1.14.0. Not yet on parity with the vSphere Client but a bit closer.

There are quite a few bug fixes included in the ESXi 6.0 U3 that i know some of my customers will find useful e.g:

  • vCenter
    • Storage vMotion fails if the VM is connected with a CD ISO file
    • Unable to use End Vmware Tools install option using vSphere Client
    • Top five virtual machines in the datastore utilization chart are displayed incorrectly
    • Host fails to connect back after provisioning the host with a new CA signed VMCA certificate
    • Imported VMware vSphere Distributed Switch and portgroups are not displayed correctly in host
    • Single-Sign On admin server session management locks its own session object
  • ESXi
    • ESXi 6.x hosts stop responding after running for 85 days
    • ESXi patch update might fail with a warning message if the image profile size is larger than set limit
    • The hostd service might fail when taking quiesced snapshot
    • Horizon View recompose operation might fail for desktop VMs residing in NFS datastore
    • Upgrading VMware Tools on multiple VMs might fail
