Database as a Service with Nutanix ERA

You might have heard about Nutanix ERA before since it was officially announced back in May 2018 in the Nutanix .Next New Orleans time frame. You can read the press release here.

Nutanix ERA is a product providing Database as a Service (DBaaS) management and has now been released. It enables you to easily provision database environments (both the VMs running the databases and the databases) within your Nutanix environment and by that same a lot of time for your day 2 operations.

ERA Profiles which specifies database, database configuration, CPU, memory and network requirements will make the administration even easier. You can even use Nutanix ERA to initially stand up the Database VMs so they are ready when needed.

In it’s first release Nutanix ERA supports the following database operations:

  • Copy Data Management & Provisioning for:
    • Oracle
      • 11.2.0.4.x
      • 12.1.0.2.x
      • 12.2.0.1.x
    • PostgreSQL
      • 9.x
      • 10.x
  • Copy Data Management for:
    • Microsoft SQL Server
      • 2008 R2
      • 2012
      • 2014
      • 2016

Nutanix ERA is supported on the following hypervisors:

  • Nutanix AHV
  • VMware ESXi

Nutanix ERA supports the following operating Systems:

  • CentOS 6.9, 7.2, & 7.3
  • RHEL 6.9, 7.2, & 7.3
  • Oracle Linux 7.3
  • Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, & Windows Server 2016

The logical implementation in version one is to have all involved components in the same Nutanix cluster meaning:

  • Nutanix ERA
  • Source database & database server
  • Target database server
