macOS – HowTo Fix Finder Error 36

So the other day when i was trying to backup some local MacBook, macOS 10.15.5 Catalina, files to my NAS i ran into a Finder problem. Yeah this was a manual copy so no Time Machine, no automated script backup solution:)

Anyway the error i got was “Error code -36” – see the below picture for the exact message.
A bit annoying and i got it for quite a few Folders, not just the one mentioned in the picture. After some research i found the macOS built-in command dot_clean which was super easy to use. Run the command pointing to the directory where you have the error e.g.:

dot_clean Downloads/screenshots

When done you should be ready to perform the file copy. At least that was my experience
