For quite a few years a Nutanix customer running the Nutanix hypervisor AHV and RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as their virtual machine guest operating system has been in a situation where:
- RHEL has been a supported guest operating system by Nutanix. Information from Nutanix, Understanding RHEL Certification and Support for AHV Environments
- Nutanix AHV has not been a certified hypervisor by RedHat. Read about How RedHat supports customer using third party components
However, this all changed today 2021-07-29 by the announcement of a strategic partnership between RedHat & Nutanix. In short it means the following:
- Nutanix AHV is now a Red Hat certified hypervisor enabling full support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and OpenShift on Nutanix Cloud Platform
- Nutanix Cloud Platform is now a preferred choice for HCI for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat OpenShift
- Red Hat OpenShift as the preferred choice for enterprise full stack Kubernetes on Nutanix Cloud Platform
- Joint engineering roadmap providing robust interoperability
- More seamless support experience providing faster resolution times for joint customers
