Nutanix Files 5.3

Today, 2026-01-27, Nutanix released a new version of Nutanix Files meaning the latest and greatest version is now 5.3. Files is a software-defined, scale-out file storage solution which provides the services to consumers via Server Message Block (SMB) and Network File System (NFS) protocols.

Version 5.0 comes with the following new features & existing feature enhancements:

• File server configuration synchronization for Smart DR and Smart Sync features
  • Synchronous Replication Across Two Availability Zones
  • Asymmetric Cluster Sizes for Smart DR
• Directory-level quotas
• Support for LDAP over SSL Port 636
• Synchronous replication across two Prism Central clusters
• Faster high availability failover times
• File tiering throughput improvements
• Scale Writes to 10 GB per Second per File Server VM
• Support for NFSv4 Access Control Lists (ACLs)

Minimum required software versions to use with Files 5.3 and all it’s feature are:

• Files Manager 5.3
• AOS 7.3.1
• Prism Central 7.3
• FSM 5.3
• Foundation 5.9.1
