A few days ago i received an error in vCloud Automation Center (vCAC) 6 i haven’t seen before. I was trying to deploy virtual machines (VMs) from a vCAC blueprint using the Linked Clone feature. When i requested 1 or 2 VMs everything worked just fine but when increasing the number of VMs per request to 5, 10 or 15 i got the following error:
Workflow “SubmitVirtualMachineRequests” failed with the following exception: Failed to create a ‘PointCollection’ from the text ‘150,1245.5 150,1275.5 20,1275.5 20,315.5 647.5,315.5 647.5,342.5’. Inner Exception: The operation completed successfully
Strange part in the end saying “The operation completed successfully” but i’m sure there is a good explanation for that.
I took the following steps to solve the problem.
- Searched through he vCAC Appliance main log file, catalina.out. Unfortunately i couldn’t find much useful information about my problem here.
- The log file is located in the directory /storage/log/vmware/vcac and also linked from the /var/log/ directory.
- Searched the Distributed Execution Manager (DEM) log files including both the DEM Orchestrator and the DEM worker. Didn’t find anything pointing me to a solution or where to look for additional information.
- The log files are located under C:Program Files(x86)VMwarevCACDistributed Execution Manager on the Windows based machines where you installed the DEM/DEMs.
- Restarted the “VMware DEM-Worker – DEM-W) Windows service. Thanks to Niklas Kånge who told me to just restart the DEM worker and not any additional vCAC IaaS Windows services, which was my initial thought.
The restart of DEM Worker service solved my problem and i could successfully request more than 2 VMs.
