VMware vSphere 6.7 U1 Released

Yesterday, 2018-10-16, VMware released vSphere 6.7 U1 which includes updates for their two most famous products:

  • ESXi
  • vCenter Server

There are a lot of resolved issues in this release and some nice new features as well:

  • New features that are relevant to quite a few of my existing customers are included in number 1-6 below:
    1. Move a vCenter Server with an Embedded Platform Services Controller between vSPhere domains and e.g. the licensing and tagging will remain.
    2. vMotion virtual machines with NVIDIA virtual GPU. Pretty nice and it obviously requires a compatible NVIDIA card at the target ESXi hostTesla GPUs
    3. Template VMs & Open Virtual Appliance (OVA) images are supported in the content library
    4. vCenter Server Appliance Management (VAMI) can be used to manage firewall settings for the vCSA
    5. Windows 2016 Active Directory support for vCenter Server
    6. CLI available to convert vCSA with external platform service controller to embedded platform service controller.
    7. vMotion between on-prem systems and VMware Cloud on AWS
    8. Appdefense as integrated vCenter Server plugin.
