VMworld – day 0

This will be the first update from my VMworld 2013 Barcelona experience. I know the actual event has not yet started, the opening is tomorrow (Tuesday), but there are quite a few events taking place today e.g.

  • VMware Partner day
  • VMware TAM day
  • VMware Certified Instructor (VCI) day

Myself i started at 09:00 AM CET by joining the VCI day where Colin Fernandes from VMware held two really good presentations/interactive sessions.

I continued to the VMworld exhibition area for registration where i collected my blogger badge i continued to the hands on lab area. A big thank you to both Corey Romeo and John Troyer for inviting me to VMworld with a blogger pass and today was actually the first time i met both in real life.

he badge password has already been changed so you can’t use it:)

I only had the time to take one lab, “1321 – vCloud Automation Center 6.0 beta labs”.
This was a really good lab since it is not just focusing on provisioning virtual machines, physical servers and applications. Included is a task where you have to create an active directory user from the vCAC portal, using the vCenter Orchestrator active directory integration, and this makes you realize that VMware’s portfolio and vision covers more than just virtualization.
I’ll continue to do some more labs during the week, specifically NSX labs and i’l report more on this topic later on.

Thank to Pernixdata for inviting me to their VMworld party which i joined Monday evening.

Main take away from the day before the actual VMworld starts will be that i have a lot to do to get up to speed with the vCAC 6.0 when it is released. This will be a big change in how the present vSphere departments deliver infrastructure in the future,
