Meet NPX 018 – Fouad EL Akkad

  • Name: Fouad EL Akkad
  • NPX Number: 18
  • Employer: Nutanix
  • Blog URL: www.vRoomBlog.com
  • Twitter: @vRoomblog
  • Virtualisation background: I was working as the main engineer for a large virtualized organization (several thousand VMs) and started from the version of VMware vSphere 4.0 to 6.5, since September 2017 I join Nutanix as Senior System Engineer for Morocco.
  • Storage Background: As the main Virtualization engineer, I had to interact with the storage team, and step by step I was managing by my own the storage related to ESXi Host with facing subject of redundancy, high availability, migration, performance.
  • Hyper Converged Infrastructure background: Funny story, first I heard about HCI I said it’s never gone work, a company that had invest much in storage array would never change for a such technology. As an Ex-Nutanix customer, we get a POC then 3 first nodes and it became quickly the new standard for the ease of management and scalability.
  • Future of HCI and other emerging technologies: The HCI is the new IT standard. In fact, today in all layer of the infrastructure distribution of resources is a success key because it brings Resiliently, scalability and performance and HCI is the right solution offering those 3 pillars.Adding to that, the simplification of management by providing automation, life cycle management, ease to scale,… will let company focus on their current challenges like cloud, security,… and not consume all effort and time on “keep the light ON”
  • Value of NPX: Give you the stamp for being able to architect a critical environment by meeting all customer requirements, constraints, risks and assumptions.
  • What made you go for NPX: I was collecting the VMware VCAP certifications (DCV, Cloud, NSX), I needed a new challenge, a new path to follow to get new knowledge that’s why I decide with my partner Igor Zecevic to engage in NPX/VCDX certification.
  • Advise to people looking into the NPX track: If you’re up for a challenging task, this is the way to go. Stop postponing it and get on to it since you’ll enjoy the ride plus there is an amazing community out there to help you.
