VMware vCenter Server 6.5 U1 & ESXi 6.5 U1 Released

Yesterday, 2017-07-27, VMware released an update to vSphere 6.5 meaning the latest release is now vSphere 6.5 Update 1. The release includes quite a few driver updates for ESXi and vCenter Server got a few new enhancements & features which I know a few of my customers have been waiting for such as:

  • External database support now includes the following DBs as well:
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2016
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 SP1
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP2
  • Linked vCenter Servers now supports the following:
    • 15 vCenter Servers
    • 5 000 ESXi hosts
    • 50 000 powered on VMs
    • 70 000 registered VMs
  • Added functionality to the HTML 5 interface
  • You can run the vCenter Server Appliance installation on macOS Sierra and a few more Microsoft Windows based OS:es.
  • Ubuntu 17.04 OS customization.

Before you plan and complete an upgrade you must, as always, confirm compatibility which you can do via VMware Product Interoperability Matrix
