Yesterday, 2017-02-21, VMware released a new version of vCloud Director (vCD) which is now version 8.20. As you all know vCD has been focusing on service providers since a few years back but since I still work with a few service providers I’m using it from time to time.
There are quite a few changes/improvements included in vCD 8.20 and here are a few of them:
- Advanced Edge Gateway and Distributed Firewall configuration via the vCloud Director Tenant Portal
- New API for NSX
- Multi-Cell Upgrade so all cells in a server group can be upgraded in one operation.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2016 64-bit as Guest Operating System
- Oracle Linux 6 & 7 are supported as vCloud Director server operating systems but Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, update 4-10 is no longer supported.
Read the entire vCD 8.20 release notes here and the binary can be downloaded here.
Before you upgrade make sure you, as always, check the VMware Product Interoperability Matrixes to make sure you’re good to go with your planned upgrade. The official vCloud Director documentation can be found here.
