Not that often these days that you need to downgrade/revert back from an upgraded software version to the one previously running. However, that was exactly what i had to do with my blog a while ago:)
My WordPress theme Graphene haven’t been upgrade for quite some time so i decided to jump on the 2.x train. There are preview capabilities which are pretty good but for whatever reason i didn’t catch the format change in latest Graphene version. When the blog went live with the updated version it didn’t look good from a formatting point of view.
I’m using a great tool for backup and restore purposes called UpdraftPlus Backup/Restore so i guess i could have used in to restore to previous version but in that case i would have missed the last eight blog posts.
I decided to go down the manual revert back route and performed the following steps:
- Made a manual copy of the two last blog posts so i could manually recreate them if i had to use the UpdraftPlus Backup/Restore.
- Located the Graphene 1.9 version and downloaded it here
- Removed Graphene 2.x from my web site via Appearance – Themes section in the WordPress UI.
- Installed the Graphene 1.9.4 version via the same section in WordPress UI.
- Applied the Theme configuration which i actually have stored (documented) in a file:)
Now back and running again. Will take another look at upgrading to Graphene 2.x or change theme since the previous layout has been around for quite a few years now.
